Bill Murray returns in trailer for ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’

Following the release of the trailer of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, it has been revealed Bill Murray will make his return to the universe.

In one of his most famous roles, Murray played skeptic Peter Venkman, one of the squad in the original duo of 1980s movies. The films were written by his co-stars, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis and directed by the late Ivan Reitman. He then returned to the role in 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. In the new trailer for the latest outing, he can be seen donning his Ghostbusters suit and proton pack once more.

The synopsis for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire states: “In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family decide to leave Summerville, Oklahoma and go back to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – and help the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level!”

It continues: “But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.”

Furthermore, Dan Aykroyd is returning as Ghostbuster Ray Stantz, Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore, Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz and William Atherton as Walter Peck. The iconic ghost Slimer is also returning. New additions to the cast include Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt.

One segment of the new trailer features Venkman being approached by a terrifying new creature, and in his customarily relaxed style, quips: “Heads up. Tall, dark and horny at 12 o’clock.” When reuniting with Stantz and Melntiz, he tells the latter: “Melnitz in uniform, yeah!”

Following on from Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the new film sees Paul Rudd, Mckenna Grace, Carrie Coon and Finn Wolfhard reprise their roles. It was directed by Gil Kenan, who co-wrote the script with the 2021 movie’s director, Jason Reitman, the son of the late director, Ivan.
