Beyoncé receives cease-and-desist letter from Las Vegas Sphere over footage used “without permission”
Beyoncé’s 2025 Cowboy Courter has been no stranger to the headlines, and the saga continues. The owner of the Las Vegas venue, the Sphere, has sent Beyoncé a cease-and-desist letter over footage that depicts the space and is used in the interlude for the show.
“Beyoncé — many orders of magnitude larger than the Sphere venue — leans over, picks up the venue, and looms over it,” the letter reads, according to the Post, leading to “significant speculation that Beyoncé will end her tour with a Sphere residency.”
The letter was addressed to Beyoncé’s production company, Parkwood Entertainment. It asks that she stop using the footage, which they have included “without permission”, and which misleads fans.
The letter states: “SEG is sure that multiple aspects of the interlude video, including other brands, clips and music, were duly cleared by the tour with rights permissions from the rights holders whose works were used in the video, as is common practice. SEG, however, was never asked, and the prominent appearance and manipulation of SEG’s Sphere venue in the video is unauthorized.”
The Sphere is famous for its immersive entertainment capabilities. It boasts a 16K resolution wraparound interior LED screen, speakers with beamforming and wave field synthesis technologies, and 4D physical effects.
Reportedly, the CEO of Sphere Entertainment had tried to negotiate with the singer in the past to perform at the venue. Instead, Beyoncé will perform at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium on July 25th and 26th this summer.
Elsewhere on the tour, female fans brawled after the Grammy-winning musician performed at a sold-out SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. She also struggled to move tickets for the tour, which led to ticket prices tanking to as low as $35 only days before the artist was set to take to the stage.
Although Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour is now officially underway, she is not on an extensive world tour and will only hit major cities in the US and Europe, including the likes of Paris, Chicago, New Jersey, and Atlanta. The Cowboy Carter tour will officially finish on July 26th in Las Vegas.
