Benson Boone hits back at his critics: “At least have a good reason”

Pop star Benson Boone has hit back at his haters, claiming they should “at least have a good reason” for not liking him.

Boone exploded into the limelight in 2024 with his breakthrough single ‘Beautiful Things’. It topped the charts around the world, including the United Kingdom, and has been streamed on Spotify more than two billion times. The singer also performed the track earlier this year at the Grammys.

As a result of his newfound success, Boone supported Taylor Swift last summer at Wembley Stadium in London and also welcomed Queen guitarist Brian May to perform ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ with him at Coachella earlier this month.

Now, in a new TikTok video, he responds to those who have been less than complimentary about his rise to prominence, writing in a message, “If you hate me or my music, at least have a good reason for it.”

Boone continued: “I just read a comment that said ‘idek why I hate Benson Boone but it feels right.’ Like WHAT!? how am I supposed to improve after reading that?”

The ‘Beautiful Things’ singer then gave potential reasons to people who want to ridicule him, continuing, “At least say something valid like ‘he low key just flips everywhere can he doing anything else?’ Or even ‘I just don’t like his songs even though I’m basing my opinion off the only one that I’ve heard over and over’ (super valid).”

Following his performance earlier this year at the Grammys, Boone faced ridicule on social media for his acrobatics, and the Coachella crowd were also lukewarm when he introduced May at the festival. Boone responded by mocking the audience with a cardboard cutout of the Queen guitarist during his second set in California.

Despite the quiet reaction from the Coachella audience for May, the English rock icon was thrilled to perform with Boone, writing on Instagram, “This particular way of concluding Bohemian Rhapsody will be hard to beat in the years to come !!! Thanks. And for Benson and his entire team, I have no words. I’m awestruck. Photo by Allen J. Schaben, I understand. Aeronautics by Benson Boone, esq. Bri”.
