Ben Affleck hates “10 or 12” of his own movies: “Fucking terrible”
Ben Affleck has reflected on his Hollywood career and revealed there are a dozen movies in his filmography that he thinks are “fucking terrible”.
Affleck is currently promoting The Accountant 2, released in cinemas worldwide on April 25th, which is a great source of pride for the actor. The Oscar winner claims his belief in the movie is the reason why he’s working hard to ensure he gets as many eyes on it as possible, which Affleck admits he wouldn’t do if he disliked the movie.
During a new appearance on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, Affleck shared: “The movie is really good. Like, if you had a movie that wasn’t good, you’d do a few of the basic things, because, look, there’s going to be a bell-curve one way or the other. The better you are, the more you’re going to move your bell-curve further down and have a better chunk of movies.”
Speaking from personal experience, Affleck reviewed his career, admitting, “I’ve got about 12 movies that I really love and I’m proud of, and about 25 that are like, ‘I liked this, I didn’t like this’, and about 10 or 12 or whatever that it’s like, ‘That’s fucking terrible, I hate this’. I can’t watch it and it’s awful.”
While Affleck didn’t specifically name the movies that fall under the “fucking terrible” category, he has previously labelled the 2003 romantic comedy, Gigli, as the “most famous bomb in history” during a conversation with Deadline.
Affleck also once opened up about his dislike of Daredevil and explained why he’d like to erase it from his career, stating, “The only movie I actually regret is Daredevil. It just kills me. I love that story, that character, and the fact that it got fucked up the way it did stays with me.”
In contrast, The Accountant 2, which co-stars Jon Bernthal, has been a movie that Affleck worked hard to bring to the screen. It has taken nine years for a sequel to arrive due to being stuck in the developmental stage for an extended period before Amazon MGM Studios secured the rights last year.
