Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal star in the trailer for ‘The Accountant 2’
The first trailer has arrived for the highly-anticipated sequel The Accountant 2, starring Ben Affleck opposite Jon Bernthal.
The long-awaited movie is set to premiere on Amazon Prime on April 25th. The Accountant was released in 2016, however, it has taken nine years for a sequel to arrive due to being stuck in the developmental stage for an extended period. It wasn’t until Amazon picked up the project that work truly got underway at a fast-tracked pace.
The official synopsis for The Accountant 2, which stars Affleck as autistic accountant Wolff and his hitman brother, portrayed by Bernthal, reads: “As they get closer to the truth. The trio draw the attention of some of the most ruthless killers alive – all intent on putting a stop to their search.”
While the new movie will be streaming exclusively on Amazon rather than hitting cinemas, The Accountant was a success story at the box office. Despite having a budget of $44 million, it impressively returned $155 million thanks to audiences.
Affleck recently told Vanity Fair in an interview about the sequel, “I’m a believer in that multiple things can exist. You can do a movie for a big audience. And I think that’s really the same thing as a movie with characters that seem real, and that you connect to and care about.”
He also touched upon the lasting appeal of the first film in the series: “It was a movie that I found that I would hear about from people. It was a movie that stuck around, that people would talk about and say, ‘Oh, hey, I like The Accountant.’ And there seemed to be a lot of goodwill towards it.”
Meanwhile, director Gavin O’Connor said to the publication of his vision for the movie: “It was very important to me to make an exuberant, entertaining movie. I wanted to make an emotional film and also not just an action movie, which I would find wildly boring and uninteresting.”
O’Connor added: “An action movie that dealt with human connection and love was something that I really wanted to explore.”
