Bella Ramsey reveals desire to play the Joker
The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey has revealed they would like to play the Batman villain, the Joker, a famous role previously played by Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix.
“I’ve not really played a villain yet,” Ramsey said in a recent interview. “So I want to play a baddy. But like a really interesting, intricate, complex baddy.” When the Joker character was suggested, Ramsey agreed it would be a befitting role.
“Yeah. I was actually thinking that as well,” they added to LadBible. “The Joker, someone really interesting like that.” The actor also noted that they’d be willing to portray someone like Hannibal Lecter.
Most recently, Barry Keoghan played the Joker in the Matt Reeves movie The Batman, while Joaquin Phoenix portrayed the character in the origins story Joker by Todd Phillips. While Heath Ledger’s take on the notorious villain in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy is perhaps the most iconic.
In the same interview, Ramsey spoke of their on-screen relationship with their The Last of Us co-star Pedro Pascal. “I was really worried that we wouldn’t get on or we wouldn’t click or something,” they said. “I was like because we were going to spend this year together, and then we were gonna have to do lots of press afterwards.”
“And I was like, oh, no, I was so scared that we won’t get on,” Ramsey continued. “So it was a big relief. And we did in fact, get on, but we were very shy of each other to begin with. And then we started spending lots of time in like a car on set together, it bonded us for sure.”
