Baxter Dury releases new single ‘Return of the Sharp Heads’
Baxter Dury has released his latest single ‘Return of the Sharp Heads’, ahead of his forthcoming album Allbarone arriving later this year.
‘Return of the Sharp Heads’, the seventh song on Dury’s latest nine-track album, comes as a reflection on the metropolis cityscape of the English capital, evoking similar themes to much of the rest of the record.
Regarding the tune specifically, Dury said: “‘Sharp Heads’ is an abstract subconscious rant, criticising anyone that is from Shoreditch or thereabouts, as I talk from my ivory tower in west London. In that process emerges my own character. It doesn’t always make sense but it makes sense to me.”
This mirrors what the singer had already revealed about the record Allbarone and its lead single of the same name when he announced it last month, heralding it as a “brand new” musical era, but one that is unlike anything he has ever done before.
“It’s very critical of people, this album, whoever they are, maybe some bloke with a moustache and sockless loafers in Shoreditch or a fat old Chiswick gangster lording it up in a really comfortable middle-class part of London,” noting it as “exciting” as it is his first production collaboration with music mogul Paul Epworth, who has previously worked with the likes of Adele and Florence and the Machine.
Meanwhile, Dury revealed to 6 Music in May that he lost his driving license when DJ and cyclist Jeremy Vine caught him using his phone at the wheel, which led to Vine issuing a public statement regarding the matter.
Dury’s new album, Allbarone, will be released on September 12th, 2025, via Heavenly Records.
