Barry Can’t Swim announces second album ‘Loner’

Scottish electronic musician Barry Can’t Swim has confirmed his new album, Loner, set for release on July 11th on Ninja Tune.

It has been a mesmeric two years for the producer, real name Joshua Mainnie, following the release of his Mercury Prize-nominated debut album, When Will We Land?, in 2023. At Glastonbury last year, the Park Stage had to be cordoned off due to the number of people in attendance for his afternoon set which cemented his rise in popularity.

Now, he’s reflecting on his journey on Loner which promises to navigate and explore the world he’s found himself in.

Mainnie said of the new record: “If my first album was a collage of all the music I loved and was inspired by growing up, then this album is the most authentic expression I could offer of myself and my life over the past year.”

The record has already been teased with the unexpected release of new single, ‘The Person You’d Like To Be’, earlier this week. Barry Can’t Swim has also now shared a second cut from the album by releasing the dancefloor-ready track, ‘Different’.

This summer is set to be the biggest yet for Barry Can’t Swim. In addition to releasing Loner, he’ll also graduate to headlining festivals and is set to top the bill at All Points East in London. Raye, The Maccabees and Chase and Status will also headline the festival. Recently, Barry Can’t Swim was announced alongside Doechii, Jorja Smith and Ezra Collective as a headliner at Forwards in Bristol.
