Barack Obama shares his favourite songs of 2023

Barack Obama, the former President of the United States, has shared his highly-anticipated list of favourite songs from 2023.

Obama has made it an annual tradition to share with his online followers what books, movies and music he’s enjoyed over the last 12 months. In the middle of the year, the former politician also shared a summer playlist which included Boygenius’ ‘Not Strong Enough’, SZA’s ‘Snooze’, Ice Spice & Nicki Minaj’s ‘Princess Diana’, and Rosalía’s ‘Vampiros’.

Now, in his annual roundup, Obama has shared a list of his 28 favourite songs from 2023. He introduced the selection on X, formerly Twitter, by writing: “Here are some of my favorite songs from this year. Let me know if there are any artists or songs I should check out.”

Notable tracks include ‘Vampire Empire’ by Big Thief, Mitski’s ‘My Love Mine All Mine’, Blondshell’s ‘Joiner’, ‘I Remember Everything’ by Zach Bryan featuring Kacey Musgraves’, Indigo De Souza’s ‘Younger and Dumber’, ‘Road To Freedom’ by Lenny Kravitz and ‘Cast Iron Skillet’ by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit.

Additionally, Obama paid his respects to the British hip-hop community, naming Central Cee and Dave’s collaboration ‘Sprinter’ among his 2023 favourites alongside ‘Toxic Trait’ by Stormzy featuring Fredo.

The latest list from Obama comes shortly after he shared his favourite movies of 2023, including popular releases as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Ben Affleck’s Air and Alexander Payne’s Holdovers. Unexpectedly, he also named the British fantasy thriller Polite Society as well as Monster from the celebrated Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Koreeda.

However, Obama did also admit he was “biased” to include three movies that had been produced by Higher Ground, a company founded by the former President and his wife, Michelle Obama, back in 2018.
