Babyshambles release ‘Dandy Hooligan’, their first single in 12 years
Babyshambles have returned with their first single in more than a decade, ‘Dandy Hooligan’.
The new release, which contains ska and reggae flavours, has been released through singer Peter Doherty’s own record label Strap Originals.
The track is an ode to Bob Morris, who also stars in the video. He is described as being a longtime associate of the band who “served his time in the anti-nazi ranks”.
Doherty says of the new single, “It’s a well turned-out, elegantly crafted; reggae-ska-pop song… with a sweet melody to bowl along to with your sharpened walking cane…. Word from the ‘shambles camp is that it’s a homage to a legendary National Front basher.”
On the track, Doherty sings of the ‘Dandy Hooligan’ in question, “He’s rude in temper rude in style, Him a wicked and a wild, He loves an old hat shop, And a good punch up, Oh well he never punch down”
‘Dandy Hooligan’ arrives alongside a video that was shot by Roger Sargent in Soho. The song itself was recorded in Normandy and Manchester earlier this year with producer Mike Moore, who recently filled in for Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs on guitar for the Oasis reunion tour.
The line-up for the Babyshambles reunion also includes Mick Whitnall, Drew McConnell, and Adam Ficek alongside Doherty.
Upon confirming their return in September, Doherty said: “It’s unfinished business and everywhere I go I get ‘what’s happening with the ‘shambles.’ It’s a no brainer for me, a real desire to play some of them old tunes and have a little shindig.”
The 17-date tour is set to kick off in Coventry on November 13th and conclude at KOKO in London on December 15th.
