Babyshambles confirm reunion and announce UK tour
Babyshambles have confirmed details of their reunion, which will take place later this year in the UK.
Pete Doherty, Mick Whitnall, Drew McConnell, and Adam Ficek are set to begin the tour in Norwich in November. Babyshambles will also visit Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Leeds, Nottingham, Norwich, Plymouth, and London’s Brixton Academy.
In a statement, Doherty said of getting the band back together: “It’s unfinished business and everywhere I go I get ‘what’s happening with the ‘shambles.’ It’s a no brainer for me, a real desire to play some of them old tunes and have a little shindig.”
On a poignant note, McConnell explained how the recent death of former guitarist Patrick Walden is another key reason for the reunion, sharing: “The death of Patrick (Walden) made us determined that we have to tour now.”
Walden’s death at the age of 46 was announced via Facebook on June 20th. The remaining members of Babyshambles said they were “very fortunate to have known, loved, and worked with him.”
In a seperate post, Doherty wrote: “To know you were loved and will be missed. To all your friends and family. Be at rest in peace, Pat. Love from your pal Petey x.”
He was a founding member of the band who played on their debut album Down In Albion before departing in 2006, with Whitnall replacing him in the group.
In August 2024, the Babyshambles reunion appeared to be in the works when Ficek and McConnell joined Doherty at a solo show in Northampton.
Additionally, in 2022, during a conversation with Far Out, Doherty hinted at the possibility of reuniting Babyshambles, stating, “If I felt there was a real need for it, if people need to hear those songs live again, it would probably happen.”
