Aphex Twin curates 191-song playlist for Supreme

Aphex Twin has shared a new 191-song curated playlist for streetwear brand Supreme.

Although Aphex Twin, real name Richard James, has not personally created the hours of music that has been served up, it still provides a fascinating insight into the mind of one of the most mysterious figures in British music.

Notably, James’ playlist, which is titled [mostly mellow], arrived shortly after the electronic musician’s collection with Supreme went on sale on March 6th. The entire range of clothing is inspired by Aphex Twin’s celebrated fourth album, 1996’s Richard D James.

The video for his track ‘Donkey Rhubarbs’ inspired one of the sweatshirts and every item features some kind of homage to the record. Other items include an Alpha Industries cargo jacket, cargo trousers, football tops, hoodies, tees, six-panel caps, Mechanix work gloves, and several skateboards.

In [mostly mellow], Aphex Twin includes tracks by Kraftwerk, Run DMC, Burial, Squarepusher, Brian Eno, Scott Gilmore, Marvin Gaye, Simple Minds, Black Devil Disco Club, Herbie Hancock, Ragga Twins, The Beach Boys, Percy Faith and David Axelrod.

On the music front, Aphex Twin has been quite in recent years. In the summer of 2023, he released his Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / in a room7 F760 EP via Warp Records. The project marked his first music release since the Peel Session 2 EP in 2019. It’s also been more than a decade since the release of his last full-length album, Syro, in 2014.

Aphex Twin did come out of hibernation in 2023 to play a series of festivals across the season, including headlining Forwards in Bristol and Field Day in London, but currently has no future dates scheduled in his calendar.

In the meantime, while fans continue to wait for new music from Aphex Twin, [mostly mellow] is available to listen to below.
