Anya Taylor-Joy celebrates “darling” Miley Cyrus at Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony

Anya Taylor-Joy has shared her fondness for global popstar Miley Cyrus in a gushing address given at Cyrus’ Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

On May 22nd, the star’s moniker earned a spot on the iconic Hollywood strip; she became the 2,845th star on Hollywood Boulevard, and Joy was on hand to celebrate the achievement.

While honouring her friend, Joy revealed the first time she came across the ‘Flowers’ singer: “I, like many of you, remember exactly when and where I was when I encountered Miley Cyrus. I was ten years old, recently back from a vacation in Florida with my parents, and clutching a prized J-14 Tween Magazine to my chest.”

She reminisced, “On the back, a beautiful girl wearing a wig that would become the blueprint for every pop star’s hair. And I knew that this, and her, were going to be huge.”

Joy added, “Miley didn’t just grow up in front of the world; she outran every expectation it set for her. She challenged the rules, rewrote them, and, every once in a while, set them on fire in a teddy bear costume.”

The Dune 2 actor added that, crucially, Cyrus “never asked for permission to evolve,” and instead had done so “beautifully, unapologetically and always, always authentically”.

She concluded with a direct address towards the former Hannah Montana actor, sharing, “Miley, darling, you have always been, and are now quite literally, a star. Thank you for shining brightly for all of us.”

In her own speech, Cyrus reflected on the honour, sharing. “What feels so special to me about this star is that it’s an accumulation of devotion. The star isn’t something that you win like a seasonal game. It’s not something that you can chase or collect. It’s not something you make the next record for and then tote it around like a trophy.”

Addressing a huge cluster of fans who had come to watch the event, Cyrus raved that the momentous occasion was “fierce and fun and fabulous”.
