Aerosmith announce return with new single featuring Yungblud
Aerosmith have announced their plans to return with new music for the first time in over a decade, releasing a single with Yungblud.
The song, called ‘My Only Angel’, has not yet been released, but both the band and Yungblud teased that it is on the way through a short clip posted on social media. In the teaser, they sing the lyrics: “Will you cry/ if I called you my angel/ gotta leave, gotta leave, gotta leave you one more time.”
It comes after Yungblud recently teamed up with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry to perform a tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne at the MTV VMAs, singing a medley of his hits ‘Changes’, ‘Crazy Train’, and ‘Mama, I’m Coming Home’.
Following the performance, they each posted photos of themselves backstage at the awards ceremony, which was captioned with the line: “We got a secret…”
That has obviously now been revealed as the single ‘My Only Angel’, which comes as Aerosmith’s first sonic effort in some 13 years, following the release of their last album Music from Another Dimension! in 2012. The band have since retired from touring due to the declining condition of Tyler’s voice, but they have always been ambiguous as far as new music is concerned.
It is not yet known whether ‘My Only Angel’ will serve as a standalone single for the band, or whether it could signal a wider collaborative project between them and Yungblud.
Despite the news, their recent VMAs performance attracted controversy from some quarters of the music industry, as The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins hit out afterwards and said: “Yungblud seems to have positioned himself as a natural heir to the Ozzy legacy,” despite not being connected to heavy metal.
Hawkins added that the performance had “this Disney veneer over the top of it, like it’s rock’n’roll seen through an Instagram filter of some sort.”
