Adrianne Lenker announces new album ‘Bright Future’ and shares lead single
Big Thief vocalist and solo artist Adrianne Lenker has returned with her new single ‘Sadness As A Gift’. Additionally, Lenker has announced details of her upcoming sixth full-length solo offering, Bright Future.
‘Sadness As A Gift’ follows from the release of ‘Ruined’ at the end of last year. The new track is as bewitching and tender as the rest of Lenker’s catalogue. Emotive vocals and country-inspired instrumentation underscore her poetic musings on bittersweet melancholy and the changing of the seasons.
The single release is accompanied by the announcement of Bright Future. Set for release on March 22nd, 2024, via 4AD, the new record will mark Lenker’s first full-length solo offering in almost four years.
Bright Future will follow from the huge outpouring of love and acclaim Lenker received for her last two albums, Songs and Instrumentals. Released on the same day in 2020, they spawned some of the singer-songwriter’s most beautiful and well-loved compositions yet, including ‘Anything’ and ‘Not A Lot, Just Forever’.
Two years later, Lenker gathered “some of [her] favourite people” in a woodland studio to work on the new record, including producer Phillip Weinrobe and collaborators Nick Hakin, Mat Davidson and Josefin Runsteen. The result, according to Lenker herself, was “magical.”
“It felt like everyone’s nervous systems released,” she recalled, “Once we were in the song, somehow we just knew. No one stopped a take. We didn’t listen back. I only listened after everybody else left.” Alongside Lenker’s new collaborations, the album will unveil an original recording of Big Thief’s ‘Vampire Empire’.
Lenker has also announced a North American tour, which will take her to stages including Los Angeles, New York, and Texas later this year.
