Adam Sandler responds to ‘Uncut Gems’ Oscars snub

Star of Uncut Gems Adam Sandler has responded to the film being snubbed by this year’s Oscars, with the Academy not picking up the film for a single nomination.

With nominations landing yesterday there were always going to be some notable misses when the shortlists arrived.

As well as leaving out Great Gerwig’s Little Women for Best Director, which has left the category as an all-male shortlist – again – Uncut Gems was also missed off. Todd Phillips’ Joker received 11 nods with, Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Scorsese’s The Irishman both receiving 10.

Yet everyone is talking about Sandler’s Uncut Gems missing out entirely and not receiving a single nomination. The film is set in Manhattan’s diamond district and focuses on Sandler’s character Howard Ratner as part of the adrenaline pump feature.

Sandler took to Twitter to joke about missing out on an Oscar nomination as well as offering congratulations to his former Waterboy co-star Kathy Bates.

“Bad news: Sandman gets no love from the Academy,” he tweeted. “Good news: Sandman can stop wearing suits. Congrats to all my friends who got nominated, especially Mama.”

Bates did eventual respond to Sandler’s tweet. “I love you my Bobby Boucher!!! You was robbed!! But Mama loves you!!!” she tweeted. “I learned a new urban slang word for you! You da GOAT!! Not the one we eat at home, Son.”
