Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya and Anna Kendrick to star in new Chris Rock movie for A24

Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, and Anna Kendrick will star in Chris Rock’s first directorial movie for distributors A24.

The main character in the untitled movie, written and directed by comedy legend Rock, has been landed by Slow Horses star Rosalind Eleazar. The English actor also starred in the hit Netflix adaptation of the Harlan Coben novel, Missing You, earlier this year.

According to Deadline, which broke the casting news, the movie “follows Misty Green, a gifted actress with a derailed career until someone from her past offers her a chance at a comeback.”

Information regarding the characters of Driver, Kaluuya and Kendrick remains undisclosed. The movie is currently in production in Los Angeles.

The new project marks Rock’s first directorial since Top Five in 2014, starring him alongside Rosario Dawson and Gabriella Union.

When Rock first stood behind the director’s chair in 2003 for Head of State, he said to IGN regarding his love of filmmaking: “I love the control. I love everything. I love just taking the thing and seeing it and making it your own… It’s easier for me that way. I think my best work is when I’m kind of in charge.”

The comic continued: “It’s the same amount of stuff I did when I was doing The Chris Rock Show, or I’m doing a stand-up special. I cut those. It got to where I was like taking charge. Then I started doing movies. And when I started delegating authority, the quality went down.”

It was previously reported in 2023 that Rock was set to direct a biopic based on the life of Martin Luther King, titled King: A Life. However, there has been no update on this movie in almost two years.
