Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller to star in James Gray’s ‘Paper Tiger’ alongside Adam Driver
James Gray’s next feature film, Paper Tiger, has faced setbacks before filming has even started, as Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong dropped out due to other commitments. However, it has now been announced that Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller will take their place.
The new leads will star opposite Adam Driver in the upcoming movie. Gray is writing and directing with production set to start next month in New Jersey.
The film is described as a tense and gritty story about two brothers who pursue the American Dream only to become entangled in an illusory scheme.
As they try to navigate their way through an ever-more dangerous world of corruption and violence, they find themselves and their family brutally terrorised by the Russian mafia. Betrayal is rife as bonds, once unbreakable, are snapped.
Vincent Maraval and Kim Fox’s The Veterans represent the international sales rights, and CAA Media Finance handles North American rights. Sales will continue at the Cannes market.
American filmmaker Gray is known for his interesting take on genre; his debut feature, a crime drama called Little Odessa, not only won the ‘Silver Lion’ at Venice but was also lauded by none other than the notable French New Wave auteur Claude Chabro.
Teller’s face will appear on our screens more frequently over the next year. He will next star in Greg Kwedar’s fantastical comedy Possum Song and Paul Downs Colaizzo’s Winter Games for Paramount Pictures. He recently wrapped production on Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael and A24’s Eternity.
Johansson also has a busy schedule, including hosting May 17th episode of Saturday Night Live. This will be her seventh time that the two-time Oscar nominee will headline the show. She will next star in Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme, which will play in competition in Cannes, and Jurrasic World: Rebirth. Her directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, will also premiere at Cannes.
