Linda Perhacs, 1970s folk singer, reported missing
Linda Perhacs, a folk singer-songwriter who gained a cult following in the 1970s, has been reported missing.
Perhacs is best known for her 1970 album Parallelograms, which began to gain a rising status many years after its original release.
However, a group of friends have now grown concerned after not hearing from the musician for the past eight months, and they have now gone public with the news of her disappearance.
According to a social media appeal, Perhacs was last seen in late 2025 at an assisted living facility in San Fernando Valley, California, where she had been residing for the past eight years prior to that point.
The 82-year-old was subsequently discharged from the facility under the supervision of caregivers, and has not been heard from since despite her friends’ repeated attempts to make contact. Perhacs’ legal guardians have also not responded to any attempted contact with them.
The singer’s friends Laurel Stearns, Julia Holter, and Mark ‘Frosty’ McNeill, the former of whom served as Perhacs’ manager from 2013 to 2016, have now released a statement online, appealing for information regarding her disappearance.
A joint post made on Instagram by the three friends said: “Please help us locate Linda to ensure her wellbeing.”
A separate statement added that at “this time, those issuing this statement are not alleging wrongdoing. Rather, they are seeking confirmation that Linda is safe, well, and receiving appropriate care, while expressing concern over the prolonged absence of communication with a beloved public figure,” per Rolling Stone.
The post urges anyone who has “verified information” on Perhacs’ whereabouts to contact Stearns via her email address of [email protected]. The LAPD have not yet made any comment as to the status of the investigation into the singer’s disappearance.
Following the resurgence of her debut album Parallelograms during the 1990s, Perhacs went on to make two further albums, The Soul of All Natural Things and I’m A Harmony, released in 2014 and 2017, respectively.
