Scouse sensation Zuzu has served up her first song of the year, ‘Timing’.
Zuzu was the first act to perform at the pilot concert at Liverpool’s Sefton Park last month, where she shared the bill with The Lathums and Blossoms. Now with new music at her disposal, Zuzu looks set to continue making up for the lost time in 2021.
‘Timing’ is a rousing lo-fi tinged effort from Zuzu that sounds like it was made to be played at a festival while the sun beats down. Her keen eye for melody provides ‘Timing’ with an almighty chorus that will swim around your head for the rest of the weekend.
“This song is about what could have been,” Zuzu explains in a statement, “Meeting someone you have an instant connection with, but the timing was never right. It’s about those lonely late nights / early mornings when the sun is rising and that person creeps into your mind.”
She added: “You wonder where they are, if they’re thinking of you too. I wanted to capture the nostalgic but also melancholy feeling brought on by those sad longing thoughts for somebody you loved.”
Zuzu is certainly one to keep an eye out for. Last year she released her debut EP, How It Feels, and it looks like another body of work isn’t too far away. She’s an artist that you should check note down in your itinerary this summer if the festival season goes ahead like currently planned.
It’s been over a year since Zuzu has released anything, and ‘Timing’ is one way of making your return a stirring one. Fingers crossed, it won’t be another year until we hear new music again.
