Yusuf/Cat Stevens to release reissue of ‘Buddha and the Chocolate Box’

Yusuf/Cat Stevens is set to release a reissue of his iconic 1974 album Buddha and the Chocolate Box

The album is the latest in Stevens’ collection to be reissued, following on from his On The Road to Findout: Greatest Hits record and Cat on the Road to Findout autobiography last year.

Buddha and the Chocolate Box represented the peak of the singer’s popularity when it was released in the mid-’70s, marking his sixth studio album.

At the time, it reached number two in the US charts and number three in the UK, as well as replicating similar huge success all over the world.

As such, the album is set to be reissued on September 4th, with a range of exclusive editions available in both physical and digital formats.

It will be released in both black and chocolate 180g vinyl variants, as well as on CD, and with downloads in HD and SD, which fans can pre-order now ahead of its release on September 4th.

Reflecting back on Buddha and the Chocolate Box, Stevens said in his autobiography last year: “Buddha and the Chocolate Box reopened the doors of my familiar melodious soft delivery and sentiments. Although still experimental in compositional terms, it was what most of my fans desperately wanted to hear next.”

He added at the time, “Following on from Foreigner, the Buddha album proved — especially to those who had no faith — that the missing Cat had simply wandered away from home for a while. My principle of independence was asserted as with most cats, don’t ever dare think you own them! As far as the critics were concerned, album-wise, it marked my heralded return to ‘Cat Stevens’ form.”

The album notably features ‘Oh Very Young’, which granted Stevens his highest-ever chart position for a single in the UK, when it re-entered and reached number 23, after being used in the soundtrack of the Netflix film Thursday Murder Club.
