Yungblud cancels headline festival appearance to prioritise mental health: “I’m taking this extremely seriously”
Yungblud has cancelled a headline performance at a Canadian music festival this weekend to focus on his mental health.
The 28-year-old singer was due to headline the Cowboys Music Festival in Calgary on July 12th, but has now pulled out of the event to allow him to stay at home in England, and prioritise his wellbeing.
In a statement, Yungblud’s management said, “Reluctantly we have made this decision as a team to pull Yungblud from The Cowboys Music Festival in Calgary this Sunday. We are sorry for any disappointment this may cause, these are not decisions we take lightly.”
They have confirmed that “all other scheduled shows will go ahead as planned.” As it stands, Yungblud, real name Dominic Harrison, is due to return to the stage in Indianapolis on July 28th.
In a personal message, Yungblud also explained the reason why he won’t be in Calgary and apologised to any fans who were left disappointed by him not appearing at the Cowboys Music Festival.
“To all my family in Canada I apologise for not being there with you all this weekend – I’m currenlty in a place where I’m working on myself and taking time off at home in the UK,” Yungblud began.
The Grammy-winner continued, “I’m taking this extremely seriously and facing head on what’s going on for the good of the long term. I will never take any of this for granted and I will see you soon. I love you all.”
The Cowboys Music Festival also added, “Our thoughts are with Dom. We are sending him all our love and support, and wish him nothing but the very best during this time. We want him to know and feel the true loe he has here in Canada.”
They have subsequently announced Nelly as his replacement on July 12th, with ticket-holders able to access refunds if they choose to.
Yungblud recently opened up about his personal struggles at his own festival, BludFest, which took place outside the UK for the first time in Czechia at the end of June.
He told fans that “lately I have felt so disconnected from everything” and admitted that he has “felt in pain a lot and I don’t know why for a long time,” before affectionately adding, “Every time I find your faces, every time I find your eyes, every time I look at you, I know that I belong somewhere.”
Harrison later shared the moment on social media, captioning the post, “To be truthful. Recently, I’ve been really struggling and this moment is a byproduct of my body releasing the wave of emotion that has hit me in the past year that I’ve been unable to process.”
Last November, Yungblud cancelled a series of performances in North America and Latin America following voice and blood tests, which “raised some concerns”, causing doctors to order him to “take a break from touring until the end of the year”.
