Yeah Yeah Yeahs tease return and international tour

New York legends Yeah Yeah Yeahs have teased a return and a new international tour, three years on from the release of their last album, Cool It Down, in 2022.

The trio, consisting of singer Karen O, guitarist Nick Zinner, and drummer Brian Chase made a cryptic post on their Instagram on March 11th, simply captioned with the word “Wait…” alongside a picture listing the names of eight cities – Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Manchester, Mexico City, Nashville, New York, and San Francisco.

Fans were encouraged to sign up for updates as well as RSVP to each of the cities, surely indicating tour dates on the horizon. They could also submit the name of their home city if it was not included on the list, perhaps also implying a much more extensive tour is on the cards than what has currently been announced.

This new run of potential gigs comes off the back of a packed 2023 for the band, where they spent much of their time on the road promoting Cool It Down, their first full-length album to be released since 2013.

Indeed, this new era marks the continuation of a resurgent few years for the three-piece as their most popular hit ‘Maps’ from 2003 – referenced in their most-recent Instagram post caption – became the custodian of a TikTok trend boom, bringing the seismic song released 20 years prior some new lifeblood among the younger generations.

Although Yeah Yeah Yeahs have not yet made any suggestions as far as putting out new music, they did contribute an unreleased song, ‘Turn Into Redux’, to the Los Angeles Rising album, made in aid of victims of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires back in January.

In a four-and-a-half-star review of Cool It Down, Far Out wrote: “With rampant force, the old indie stalwarts have declared themselves back on the scene in style. Albeit they are most certainly no longer part of the scene. Far from a dated outfit, re-emerging and trying to fit in—they seem to have flown the nest many years ago and this huge record has been spat back from the edge of the universe, with all the highfalutin madness such an image entails.”
