Nick Cave, PJ Harvey and Jarvis Cocker team up for ‘Los Angeles Rising’ charity album
Nick Cave, PJ Harvey and Jarvis Cocker are among the star-studded names to contribute to the new compilation album, Los Angeles Rising.
The album is the brainchild of Bauhaus drummer Kevin Haskins and producer Nick Launay, who, along with a host of musical icons, have come together to help Los Angeles in its hour of need following the tragic wildfires last month.
Los Angeles Rising features unreleased recordings from Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, Gary Numan, Primal Scream, Devo and many more. Additionally, it contains an alternate take on ‘Turn Into Redux’ by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, plus a cover of ‘California Dreamin” by Jarvis Cocker which was recorded in 2020.
In a statement, Haskins shared: “As the wildfires were raging and destroying thousands of homes around Los Angeles, both my neighbourhood and Nick’s were instructed to evacuate. But we were the lucky ones. The fire threatening our homes and recording studios was thankfully extinguished by firefighters just minutes away, but countless musicians and friends lost everything.”
He continued: “This harrowing experience and witnessing the monumental destruction of entire communities, inspired Nick and I to team up to create a compilation album to raise money for the less fortunate. We reached out to our musician friends for unreleased recorded gems and the response was incredible! PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker, Primal Scream, Gary Numan and Devo are just some of the artists that rushed in to help.”
All proceeds from the release will go to Sweet Relief. Los Angeles Rising is available exclusively through Bandcamp and can be ordered here.
Thousands of people lost their homes in the Los Angeles region as wildfires caused unimaginable damage to the city, especially in the Pacific Palisades and Eaton neighbourhoods. 28 people also lost their lives, 17 of which occurred in the Palisades fire, and the other 12 happened in the Eaton fire.
The musical community has united in light of the tragedy, with the world’s biggest artists coming together to perform at FireAid on January 31st, which is expected to have raised more than $100 million. Additionally, on February 13th, Blink-182 will play a huge benefit show with all the proceeds going towards rebuilding Los Angeles.
