Wunderhorse confirm departure of bassist Peter Woodin
Alternative rock four-piece Wunderhorse have just lost a limb, as they took to social media to announce the departure of bassist Peter Woodin.
The simple post on X and Instagram read:”It’s been a great 7 years, but unfortunately our long standing friend and bass player Peter Woodin will no longer be working with us moving forward.”
The band signed off simply: “We wish Peter all the best in his future endeavours.” The bassist reposted the picture to his Instagram story, stating: “Thank you, and see ya on the next one.”
In 2024, Far Out gave Wunderhorse’s latest album Midas four-and-a-half stars, saying of the record: “Midas is a triumph on all fronts. It is anthemic enough to level the band up to bigger stages, intimate enough to allow fans to develop their own relationship with it, and interesting enough to cement Wunderhorse’s status as an act to keep an eye on and respect. It is a great rock record made with exactly the same energy behind all of history’s great rock records, as Slater, the band, and their listeners return to the root of it all.”
Wunderhorse’s first album, Cub, didn’t quite shoot them into the stratosphere compared to their sophomore offering. However, through prominent tours with Fontaines DC, Declan McKenna, and festival appearances, including Glastonbury, their following grew steadily in magnitude.
Wunderhorse started life as Jacob Slater’s solo project, stemming from the serenity of Cornwall. He then collaborated with Woodin, Harry Fowler, and Jamie Staples.
Last year, Woodin spoke to Far Out about the electricity between the band when they recorded Midas live: “We had all the doors open, amps were bleeding through into the room, and physically we were in the same space. We respond to each other’s energy as we were playing these takes.”
It is unclear what Woodin’s next projects will be. However, the departure appears amicable.
The band are set to play the biggest headline show of their career later this month at Alexandra Palace in London before a prominent slot on The Park at Glastonbury this summer.
