Wu Lyf return with first new music in 13 years

After 13 years, Manchester’s Wu Lyf have returned with new music in the form of the sprawling six-minute single ‘A New Life Is Coming’.

Last month, speculation began to erupt regarding their return when a fan received a postcard which directed them to the band’s website. Upon entering the site, the fan was met with a clock counting down to April 2nd, 2025.

Now, on April 2nd, the website has been updated with a six-minute piece of music which Wu Lyf’s Instagram has seemingly revealed is called ‘A New Life Is Coming’.

They have also revealed details of their live return which is set to take place later this month with three intimate shows in Salford, Greater Manchester, at the Kings Arms. They will perform headline concerts on April 17th, April 18th and April 19th.

Additionally, Wu Lyf have been confirmed for a series of festivals in Europe this summer, including Best Kept Secret in the Netherlands, Midi Festival in France, Haldern Pop Festival in Germany and Italy’s Ypsigrock.

In February, frontman Ellery Roberts announced his post-Wu Lyf musical venture, Lost In Heaven, were breaking up following the release of their final release, ‘Creation Song’.

Wu Lyf split in 2012 after releasing only one album, 2011’s Go Tell Fire to the Mountain. However, the record has taken on a strong cult status and remains revered more than a decade after it was shared into the world.

When asked about the breakup five years after they initially disbanded, Roberts said, “It was quite a dark moment in a lot of sense in my life. But it teaches you a lot.” He continued, “It all coming to an end was more of a revelation on my part. The band had this initial period of genuine, pure pursuit. But then you go on the road and we were 19-21.”

“There’s a two-year period of all of this happening,” he said, “Your eyes are opened to a lot of the world and you can see that a lot of things aren’t right, thus I decided I need to fundamentally get things right with myself.”

Wu Lyf’s new single is available to listen to here on their website.
