Woody Harrelson rules out ‘True Detective’ return: “Never”

Despite the 2014 series of True Detective being consistently described as one of the best seasons of television ever made, actor Woody Harrelson has admitted that he will “never” revisit the show.

In the series, Harrelson starred alongside Matthew McConaughey. The show depicts police officers and detectives around the USA, who are forced to face dark secrets about themselves and the people around them while investigating homicides.

In a new interview with People, the 64-year-old actor was told that his former co-star, McConaughey, would be keen to revisit the series under one condition. He was told, “[McConaughey] actually said that he would be into it, ‘If Woody and I think it’s good enough. It wouldn’t even be a choice.'”

“Matthew’s so funny, but in fairness, never,” Harrelson stated clearly when asked if he’d return. “Not a chance.”

He followed this stark statement up with clear reasoning, musing that his role was too good to re-do: “Because it turned out great. I love that it turned out the way it did. If anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that.”

Nonetheless, McConaughey and Harrelson will share the screen together soon, albeit in a different project. “We are doing something together and this is a comedy, half-hour, and hopefully people dig it,” Harrelson said without confirming what the project in question is.

One project we do know about is Brother From Another Mother, where both friends will star as themselves in the series, which follows the pair as they attempt to live together on McConaughey’s Texas ranch. It will air on Apple TV.

Harrelson will next appear in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, another addition in the film series that investigates magic and illusions. This film will depict The Four Horsemen and a new generation of illusionists try to bring down a worldwide criminal network. It is slated for a November 14th cinematic release.
