Wolf Alice, Sugababes and more to play Wembley concert for trans rights
Wolf Alice, Romy, Christine and the Queens, Sugababes, and many more are coming together for a star-studded charity event at Wembley Arena in support of trans rights.
The event is organised by musician and actor Olly Alexander and the Mighty Hoopla festival, and is slated for March 11th at London’s iconic arena.
The event, titled ‘Trans Mission’, will also feature appearances from figures like comedian Grace Campbell, author Shon Faye, actor Mawaan Rizwan, model Munroe Bergdorf, and actor Nicola Coughlan. Green Party leader Zack Polanski will also be involved.
Other musicians to perform on the night include Beth Ditto, Bimini, Adam Lambert, Beverley Knight, Fat Tony, Gottmilk, Kae Tempest, Kate Nash, Sink the Pink, Tom Grennan, among others.
The event will raise funds for the Good Law Project, which is a charity that uses law to push for change via government accountability. It will also raise money for trans-led charity, Not a Phase.
Celebrating the upcoming show, Alexander said in a statement, “I believe that in these times, community action isn’t just important – it’s essential! We need real and lasting change.”
He added, “Through solidarity, creativity, and collective fundraising, we can fight back against the politics of fear and exclusion and build a world where everyone can thrive.
The singer shared, “I am very fortunate to know and work closely alongside incredible trans and non-binary people whose creativity and presence are essential to the cultural fabric we all share. Trans Mission is going to be a special and unforgettable night, and I’m excited to share the stage with so many wonderful people I hugely admire.”
Organisers have revealed that the event was in reaction to rising discrimination rates and hate crimes, notably after the UK Supreme Court ruled that gender was determined by biological sex.
Tickets for the show will go on sale on December 2nd from £28.50 here.
