Wings to release self-titled anthology collection
Wings are set to release a self-titled definitive anthology of all their greatest hits from across the course of the 1970s.
Described as “a lovingly curated time capsule of imagery and music for the mega Wings fan”, Wings has been personally overseen by Paul McCartney and will be available in a range of formats, from limited edition vinyls to single CDs sets, to cater to every kind of listener, whether old or new.
The physical formats of the collection will also come with a booklet featuring an introduction from McCartney himself, while the two and three LP editions will come with a 32-page book featuring stories, images, and trivia about the band on their rise to dominance following the breakdown of The Beatles.
With McCartney as the only surviving member of the trio now, the anthology will stand as a reminder of the heights that Wings soared to over the course of their decade-long tenure.
Joined by his then-wife Linda and guitarist Denny Laine, the Wings era of McCartney’s career proved pivotal to the rest of his life in terms of honing his own sound following his departure from the Fab Four.
Creating a selection of huge hits such as ‘My Love’, ‘Band on the Run’, ‘Live and Let Die’ and ‘Mull of Kintyre’, the Wings back catalogue showcases a band who defined a future path of rock when it had already reached the top of the cultural world over the course of the ’70s, symbolising an expansion in McCartney’s artistic universe.
The announcement of the Wings anthology comes as McCartney is also preparing to dive back into The Beatles’ discography with the release of Anthology 4 in November, which will also be paired with a new documentary episode about the band on Disney+, titled ‘Nine’.
The Wings anthology is available for pre-order now, and will be released in all formats on November 7th.
