Who sang each of the Pink Floyd songs?
The Beatles get all the credit for spearheading psychedelic rock, but really, it’s Pink Floyd who deserve recognition for the title. Given the level of swirling artistry they would go on to stoke up in their midst, the members of the band hailed from relatively humble beginnings, and it was their connections with each other that gave Pink Floyd its status more than anything, whether that proved to be for better or worse.
Of course, Pink Floyd started out as a very different outfit than what they would eventually go on to become, at least in terms of personnel. The blazing enigma of Syd Barrett was what initially reeled the fans in, and kept them there even long after he had exited the scene. Then there was the fact of Roger Waters and David Gilmour’s searing feuds – a highly entertaining soap opera if ever there was one, but an insurmountable battle that ultimately tore the band apart indefinitely.
Yet through it all, across Pink Floyd’s seismic songbook, consisting of no less than 15 albums ranging from 1967 to 2014, what made the band unique in places was their ability to share the load. There may have been frontrunners, granted, but each member of the band, past and present, all took their turns leading the charge, reflected in the diversity that their discography holds.
At their heart, Pink Floyd were, and still are, a band of brothers. Despite what their bravado and protestations might make you think, they would never allow for one man to fall behind, reflected in the way they split the load across all their sonic efforts. However, with a back catalogue so prolific and extensive, it can be hard to keep track of a timeline, so here’s the essential guide to which member of Pink Floyd sang each and every one of their songs.
