Which Quentin Tarantino movies have won Oscars?
With the announcement of this year’s Oscar nominations, many filmmakers are perhaps being reminded of their own experiences with the Academy.
Directors like Paul Thomas Anderson, Quentin Tarantino and the late David Lynch have been snubbed for the coveted ‘Best Director’ award, with varying levels of critical success at the prestigious ceremony. It’s become a hot topic of conversation in recent years, with many people debating the value of these awards in the first place given how many groundbreaking films have been ignored by the Academy, raising questions about the validity of their opinion in the first place.
It seems as though films are now chosen based on commercial appeal and how many people they are seen by, despite the fact that this has never been an indicator of whether something is ‘good’ or has artistic value. However, as much as we can say that these awards don’t matter, they unfortunately carry a fair amount of weight, with directors like Quentin Tarantino expressing disappointment over how these awards are decided.
Despite being nominated for many projects and winning some of the top awards, many of his projects have been snubbed in the key categories.
So, how many Oscars has Quentin Tarantino won?
Tarantino has written and directed many projects over the years, exploding onto the scene with Reservoir Dogs in 1992 and then following this up with Pulp Fiction in 1994. While he is revered within Hollywood and has an intense cult following, the director has only won two Academy Awards over the years. While he won the prestigious Palme d’Or at Cannes for Pulp Fiction, he also won his first Academy Award for ‘Best Original Screenplay’, which he shared with his co-writer Robert Avary.
However, despite having many successful films after the release of his pulpy crime comedy, Tarantino didn’t win another Academy Award until the release of Django Unchained in 2013, which also won for ‘Best Original Screenplay’.

…and the movies that weren’t nominated?
While projects such as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained, and Pulp Fiction were all nominated for various Academy Awards, with Tarantino receiving ‘Best Director’ nominations for Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Basterds, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, several of his projects have never received Oscar nominations.
Kill Bill Volume 1, Kill Bill Volume 2, The Hateful Eight, Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown were all not selected by the Academy to be considered for an Academy Award. However, many of them were recognised at other awards ceremonies, with The Hateful Eight being nominated for a ‘Best Original Screenplay’ Bafta and Golden Globe.
However, perhaps there is still a chance for the director to win another Academy Award, with his last film, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, being released in 2019 and announced as his last film. However, there have since been rumours that the director will direct one more film, with stories that it will be based on the life of legendary film critic Pauline Kael.
