Which actor has won the most Razzie Awards?

The Razzie Awards, or the Golden Raspberry Awards, is an annual ceremony that, depending on your viewpoint, either humorously or humiliatingly, looks back at the year’s cinema and delivers some rather unwanted awards. While several actors and directors have fallen victim to the event, one man has a whole punnet of the inglorious statues. Despite his numerous successes, Sylvester Stallone has found himself on the receiving end of these awards more than any other actor, with 11 ‘wins’.

There are a number of cinematic accolades that Sylvester Stallone can graciously put on his mantle. His creation of the seminal Rocky – arguably one of the greatest sports movies ever made – is, in itself, perhaps one figurative award that few have been able to claim over the decades of Hollywood superiority. So how did a Hollywood heavyweight like Stallone become synonymous with Razzie’s criticism?

Stallone’s Razzie journey came after his breakout with Rocky and began in the 1980s, a period marked by some of his most commercially successful roles. While these movies were box office hits, they received their fair share of criticism for their over-the-top action sequences and simplistic storylines. Stallone’s physical stature and the seemingly shallow narratives of his work portrayed a superficial image that made him an easy target for the Razzie Awards personnel.

1984 saw Stallone clinch his first Razzie for Rhinestone, a musical comedy where he starred opposite Dolly Parton — that was not without its own off-set issues. The film was panned for its lacklustre plot and Stallone’s attempt at musical mastery. This initial Razzie mention, however, did not deter Stallone from continuing to explore diverse roles and genres as he continued to cash in on the box office grace he had been afforded.

Stallone remained a popular figure despite receiving yet more critical blows with Rambo III, Rocky V and the infamous Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, which, despite all gaining Stallone more of the unwanted fruits, were well-received by his fans.

While those movies would gain Stallone his four ‘Worst Actor’ gongs and contribute to his ‘Worst Actor of the Decade’ and ‘Worst Actor of the Century’ awards, Stallone would turn the tables in 2016, attending the awards to pick up his ‘Razzie Redeemer’ prize for his Golden Globe-winning performance in 2015’s Creed.

Stallone has yet to pick up another Razzie. However, he did pick up three nominations in 2020 for Rambo: Last Blood, including the fabled ‘Worst Actor’ nod. It’s an award he was also in the running for in 2023 with his movie Samaritan.

The fact remains that Stallone and the Razzie Awards seem destined to share a relationship for the rest of their careers. With 11 award wins and countless nominations, he is likely to remain the most decorated actor in the award’s history, a fact that we’d assume is made all the easier to bear considering the sheer size of Stallone’s impressive box office career.
