Weyes Blood becomes latest artist to leave Wasserman after CEO named in Epstein files
Weyes Blood has become the latest artist to announce her exit from Wasserman Music in protest against Casey Wasserman, the agency’s CEO and founder.
On January 30th, the Department of Justice shared three million new files in relation to their investigation into sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which included Wasserman’s name.
In the early 2000s, the files show that the Wassermen Music founder was in frequent communication with Ghislaine Maxwell, who is now serving for conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse minors.
Over the past week, artists have begun to announce their departures from the talent agency, and Wasserman Music is no longer showing its active roster on its website.
Chappell Roan, one of the biggest names that was represented by Wasserman, announced she was leaving the agency earlier this week, stating, “No artist, agent or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict so deeply with our own moral values.”
Other notable names that have also left Wasserman include Wednesday, Dropkick Murphys and Orville Peck, who wrote on Instagram Stories, “I leave with a huge amount of compassion for the rest of the agents and staff at the agency, who are being left with a situation that impacts all of our work and livelihoods.”
Now, Weyes Blood’s name can be added to the exodus. On a similar note to Peck, she began her statement on Instagram Stories by expressing her sympathies with the agents that have been caught in the crossfire, writing, “I have immense respect and affection for my booking agents, who are unfairly bearing the impact of the situation over at my booking agency, Wasserman.”
Clarifying her future, Weyes Blood continued, “As I continue conversations with them about their futures, I want to be unequivocally clear: I will not be remaining with Wasserman.”
The American singer-songwriter concluded by condemning Wasserman, writing, “Casey Wasserman’s behaviors is fundamentally at odds with everything I value. Thank you”.
After his name emerged in the Epstein files, Wasserman apologised publicly for his communication with Maxwell, stating, “I deeply regret my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell which took place over two decades ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light.”
Wasserman added, “I never had a personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. As is well documented, I went on a humanitarian trip as part of a delegation with the Clinton Foundation in 2002 on the Epstein plane. I am terribly sorry for having any association with either of them.”
In addition to facing calls from the artistic community to resign from his position at Wasserman Music and change the agency’s name, Wasserman is also under pressure to step down as chair of the upcoming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
