Weezer’s cover of ‘Africa’ is their biggest hit in nearly a decade
Weezer’s cover of ‘Africa’ has entered the Billboard Hot 100 Charts at number 89 which technically makes it their highest charting song since 2009.
In 2009 Weezer’s Raditude track did slightly better than their ‘Africa’ rendition and landed in at No. 81.
The Toto cover came after months of campaigning from Weezer fans who demanded that the band put their spin on ‘Africa’. Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo played a bunch of covers during a solo show in Chicago which came part of a 27-song. Notably though, a rendition of ‘Africa’ was missing. With disappointment lingering, a 14-year old named Mary started the campaign and opened up popular Twitter account @WeezerAfrica.
Well, Weezer duly obliged and the fans have rewarded them by purchasing the track.
