Watch the trailer for ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ starring Anya Taylor-Joy
The first trailer for George Miller‘s new movie, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, has finally arrived. The film is set to be released on May 24th, 2024.
The movie is a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, which was released in 2015 to critical acclaim. Anya Taylor-Joy stars as the younger Furiosa, initially played by Charlize Theron. Mad Max: Fury Road was the fourth instalment in the Mad Max franchise, which began in 1979, with Mel Gibson playing the titular character.
Alongside Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke and former WWE star Nathan Jones also star. Miller co-wrote the movie with Nico Lathouris, who also penned Fury Road with the director.
An official synopsis for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga reads: “As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus.”
“Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
Earlier this year, Hemsworth praised the experience of shooting Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga with Miller, telling GQ: “Week one of rehearsals with [Miller], all of a sudden it was this reigniting of my creative energy.”
Hemsworth also said it was “by far the best experience of my career, and something I feel the most proud of. It made me think, the work isn’t what’s exhausting, it’s what kind of work it is, and how invested I am in it and if it is challenging in the right ways”.
