Watch the new trailer for ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’

The MonsterVerse have announced the return of Godzilla in their upcoming movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, set to arrive in cinemas on April 12th, 2024.

The film is set after the events of Godzilla vs Kong and sees the two titans team up together to take on a common enemy. Details surrounding their foe are yet to be revealed, but in the new trailer, it looks to be a creature somewhat similar to Kong attempting to take their throne.

There are several details that fans of the MonsterVerse can get excited about in the new trailer, and speculation will be run ragged regarding what many of the details could mean. Kong now has a mechanical arm, Godzilla sports a pink glow down its spine, and Kong might even have offspring.

The cast remains relatively unchanged as Brian Tyree Henry, Kaylee Hottle, and Rebecca Hall will all reprise their previous roles. Dan Stevens and Fala Chen are also joining the team. The movie’s tone should be similar to those that have come before, as Adam Wingard, the director of Godzilla vs. Kong, will also oversee The New Empire.

The continued success of these films comes as a surprise to some, given the tone of the series has drastically shifted since the first Godzilla movie. The grown-up and eerie feel that was initially sought after has now been replaced with CGI fight scenes, but for many people, that’s exactly what they want from the franchise.

Speaking to IGN, Wingard said of the upcoming film: “So much of the film is entirely animated CG shots; so much of it is just pure imagination. We have some sequences going up to about eight minutes long, where it’s just the monsters doing their thing, and so the movie really allows the monsters to tell their own narrative in a visual, nonverbal way.”
