Watch the new trailer for Danny Boyle’s ’28 Years Later’

A new trailer has just been released for 28 Years Later. Academy Award-nominated writer Alex Garland and Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle reunite for the petrifying new story.

The movie is set almost three decades after the rage virus escaped and took centre stage in the 2002 film 28 Days Later. Still in quarantine, the film follows a group of survivors who live on a small island connected to the mainland by a single causeway.

The plot thickens when one of the group leaves the island into the “dark heart” of the mainland, to discover horrors that have mutated both the infected and other survivors.

The trailer opens with a jumpscare and the sound of ripping flesh. “There are many kinds of death; some are better than others,” a character recounts in the short clip. The trailer contains many elements of body horror, such as oozing flesh and zombie-like figures.

The film is directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, who was also nominated for an Academy Award. Cillian Murphy, who won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2024 for his work in Oppenheimer, is an executive producer on the project.

The star-studded cast includes Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, and Alfie Williams. Ralph Fiennes is also set to star in the movie. Fiennes missed out on Best Leading Actor at the 2025 Baftas for his performance in Conclave.

It is already confirmed that the films are planned to be a trilogy, with Nia DaCosta confirmed as the director for the third offering, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.

DaCosta said of the sequel: “While it’s very much informed by 28 Days Later, the script for The Bone Temple is very different. I was able to let my freak flag fly.”

28 Years Later is set for release in cinemas on June 20th, 2025.
