Watch the first trailer for Michael Jackson biopic, ‘Michael’

The first trailer has arrived for the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael.

The upcoming movie stars Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson as his late uncle and marks the actor’s debut in a feature film.

The cast for the Antoine Fuqua-directed film also includes Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Juliano Krue Valdi, Miles Teller and Colman Domingo. John Logan penned the screenplay.

The synopsis reads, “The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world.”

It continues, “Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins.”

Notably, the film has faced a number of issues and was originally intended to be released in 2025, but now will arrive in cinemas on April 26th, 2026.

In January, it was reported that the film was in jeopardy due to part of the biopic centring on the legal case involving Jordan Chandler, who accused Jackson of sexual misconduct as a child and reached an out-of-court settlement with the singer for $23 million.

A report from Puck alleged: “Years before signing off on the Michael movie with the Chandlers featured in the script, Jackson’s team agreed they would never include the family in any such movie.”

Additionally, Michael’s daughter, Paris Jackson, has denied involvement in the movie despite Colman Domingo claiming she was “very helpful” and labelled her brother, Prince Jackosn, as “a man of the film”.

She wrote, “@kingofbingo (Colman Domingo’s Instagram handle) don’t be telling people I was helpful on the set of a movie I had 0% involvement in lol that is so weird.”

In another post, she added, “I read one of the first drafts of the script and gave my thoughts on what was dishonest/didn’t sit right with me and when they didn’t adress it I moved on with my life. Not my monkeys not my circus. God bless and god speed.”
