Indie rock and riot grrrl legends Sleater-Kinney joined Wilco on stage in New York this weekend. This rare delight came on Saturday’s (August 21) stop on their co-headline tour. The bands are currently in the middle of a North American tour, and this sonic treat came at the iconic Forest Hills Stadium in Queens.
Sleater-Kinney surprised fans by joining Wilco onstage at the stadium helping them perform a rendition of ‘A Shot In The Arm’.
The track was first released as the second single of Wilco’s third studio album, 1999’s Summerteeth. Sleater-Kinney duo, Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker provided backing vocals of the track.
The two indie icon’s tour draws to an end this week. The remaining dates hit Boston, Portland, ME, Lewiston and finished up in Chicago on the 28th at the Millennium Park Pritzker Pavilion.
In June, Sleater-Kinney released a fresh EP of live-take studio recordings entitled Live at the Hallowed Halls. The four-track offering was recorded during a livestream appearance promoting the band’s most recent LP, Path of Wellness.
The new Sleater-Kinney record has been received to mixed reviews. However, anyone who has a good head on their shoulders can see why seeing the band and Wilco is an essential move.
