Watch Daniel Craig and Josh O’Connor in new ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’ trailer

The new trailer for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, starring Daniel Craig and Josh O’Connor, has been released.

The film, which stands as the third instalment to the Knives Out franchise, directed by Rian Johnson, will follow Craig’s main character of Benoit Blanc as he is tasked to solve his most “impossible” mystery yet, navigating the secrets of a church after a death occurs within their congregation.

In the trailer, O’Connor, who plays the role of the young priest Rev Jud Duplenticy, is seen protesting his innocence when questioned by the ruthless detective.

Alongside the two actors, the film will be rounded out by a stellar ensemble cast including the likes of Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, and Jeremy Renner, as well as Josh Brolin, who is set to play the role of Msgr Jefferson Wicks, the dominating main priest who leads the church.

Although all the films in the Knives Out universe stand as their own individual stories, Wake Up Dead Man is set to arrive three years after its previous instalment, Glass Onion, was released in 2022.

In the run up to the release of the new movie, director Johnson has previously hinted towards gothic themes being explored in the fresh narrative. He said: “It kind of gets back to the real origins of the genre, which, predating [Agatha] Christie, go back to [Edgar Allan] Poe.”

Additionally, despite the film being geared for its streaming release on Netflix, Johnson has also campaigned for it to be released in cinemas.

Regarding this, he told Business Insider: “We’re going to push for everything we can get in terms of theatrical, because I want as many people as possible to see it in that form.”

Having premiered at the BFI London Film Festival last month, Wake Up Dead Man will have a selected cinematic release in the UK and Ireland from November 28th. It will then be transferred to Netflix from December 12th.
