Watch Courtney Cox and Neve Campbell return in ‘Scream 7’ trailer

Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for Scream 7, the latest addition to the classic Ghostface franchise.

The franchise’s original creator and writer, Kevin Williamson, is back on board to co-write and direct the movie. The plot will follow a new Ghostface who emerges in the quiet town where final girl Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell, has relocated with her daughter, played by McKenna Grace. Her daughter becomes the new target.

Sidney gets some help from others along the way, including Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown as siblings Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin. Of course, Gale Weathers, played by Courtney Cox, is back in the fold.

However, the trailer keeps the biggest returning character in the dark. Stu Macher, brought to life in the very first movie by Matthew Lillard, is set to return. He died in the first movie after Campbell’s character dropped a CRT TV on his head, but the franchise has always found ways to resurrect the dead.

However, the new Scream 7 trailer keeps Stu’s involvement a secret, only hinted at in the final line: “This is gonna be fun,” a phrase his character famously said back in the very first movie. The trailer features plenty of deathly jump-scares.

Part of the Scream allure is the satirical metatextual moments; in keeping with this theme, the trailer opens when a pair of influencers visit the original murder house, only to find themselves killed in the very same spot where it all began.

The seventh addition to the classic franchise has suffered several obstacles in the last few years. Jenna Ortega had starred in Scream V and Scream VI in the lead role opposite Melissa Barrera, a set-up that was meant to continue. However, Barrera was fired from the production after making pro-Palestinian comments on social media.

The producers, Spyglass Media Group, deemed these comments antisemitic. Ortega left in solidarity with Barrera. The Scream VI directors, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, had already parted ways from the project in reaction to the incident.

The new movie will hit cinemas on February 27th, 2026.
