Watch Bruce Springsteen join John Densmore for ‘Light My Fire’ cover

Bruce Springsteen joined John Densmore, Steve Van Zandt, and the Disciples of Soul on stage at the 2026 American Music Honors for a rendition of the classic The Doors track, ‘Light My Fire’.

On April 18th, The Boss was in attendance at the event, organised by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center and held at Monmouth University.

“There is no one in the room in danger of filling Jim Morrison’s leather pants tonight,” Springsteen joked to a laughing crowd after joining the band on stage. Still, he reassured the crowd that the band “will do what we can” before delivering the soaring rendition, which ended in Springsteen giving an almighty howl in echo of the late Morrison’s vocal style.

Written by guitarist Robby Krieger, ‘Light My Fire’ was released in 1967 by The Doors, and spent three weeks at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Densmore and Krieger are the only surviving members of the original quartet.

Before the musical display, Densmore shared that Springsteen and his would-be wife and E Street Band member Patti Scialfa attended The Doors’ 1986 concert in Asbury Park. “The Doors played in Asbury Park, and guess who was in the audience — the Boss!” Densmore said.

He continued, “Hey, if our music helped Bruce shout out his bride, I’m hip. It apparently worked. They’ve been together quite a while. You know, so long that maybe Patti’s the Boss.”

Notably, Springsteen was able to make the ceremony thanks to a four-day respite from his current ‘Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour’, which last took to the stage on April 16th at the Mortgage Matchup Centre in Phoenix, Arizona.

Elsewhere across the evening, Dr. Dre received an American Music Honor, alongside Dionne Warwick, Patti Smith, the Doors, the Band, and the E Street Band.

Those in attendance were treated to another riotous performance as Chuck D and Flavor Flav of Public Enemy took to the 700 capacity venue with a triumphant rendition of ‘Fight the Power’, which Springsteen watched while “pumping his fist in the front row”, as per The Ashbury Park Press.
