Watch Boygenius cover ‘You’re Still The One’ by Shania Twain
American supergroup Boygenius recently stopped by BBC Radio 1 to record a cover of Shania Twain’s country pop classic, ‘You’re Still The One’.
The song was initially released in 1997, appearing on Twain’s Grammy-nominated album Come on Over. ‘You’re Still The One’ was also nominated for four Grammys, winning two, including ‘Best Female Country Vocal Performance’.
While the song might feel like an unexpected pick for Boygenius to cover, they add their usual charm to the track, which is bound to delight fans, even those unfamiliar with Twain’s music. Their rendition features Julien Baker playing the mandolin, with the trio splitting the vocals between them.
Boygenius is also comprised of Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, who formed the band with Baker in 2018 after being friends for several years. They released an EP in October of that year, which was critically acclaimed.
After returning to their main solo work, Boygenius eventually reunited in 2023 for their debut album, The Record, which was received overwhelmingly positively. Subsequently, they have embarked on many live shows this year, as well as releasing an EP of additional material called The Rest.
Meanwhile, Twain has also returned this year with her sixth studio album, Queen of Me. It topped the charts in the United Kingdom and hit number two on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.
