Warner Bros in talks to sell axed ‘Coyote vs Acme’
Warner Bros are in talks to sell the rights to their shelved film, Coyote vs Acme, having previously axed the film in 2023.
The film, a hybrid of live-action and animation that heavily features the beloved Looney Tunes character Wile E Coyote, had finished shooting when the production company announced that it was being shelved.
Comedian Will Forte, who stars as Wile E Coyote’s lawyer in the film alongside John Cena and Lana Condor, had previously said the decision to halt production made his “blood boil” and had also claimed that it being axed didn’t mean “this movie is anything less than magnificent”.
Now, according to reports by Deadline, it has been revealed that Ketchup Entertainment is in the process of negotiating a deal to acquire the rights for the project, having also done the same for Warner Bros’ previously-axed film The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie in 2024.
It is reported that Warner Bros are searching for a deal in the region of $50million in order to hand over production, which, if completed, will see the film get released in 2026.
Producer James Gunn was distraught at the news that the film’s production back in 2023, stating on X/Twitter, “I was surrounded by a brilliant team who poured their souls into this project for years,” and continuing, “I am beyond proud of the final product and beyond devastated by WB’s decision.
Fans took to the streets outside Warner Bros’ head offices earlier this month to protest the production company’s previous decision, believing that the film deserves an official release.
