Warner Bros deny report claiming Jonah Hill’s new movie has been cancelled due to being “unreleasable”
Warner Bros have hit back after it was reported Jonah Hill‘s new film, Cut Off, was cancelled due to being deemed “unreleasable” by the studio.
The upcoming movie, which was written and directed by Hill, who stars in the project, also features Kristen Wiig, Bette Midler, Chelsea Peretti, and Adriana Barraza.
Originally, the movie had been slated for cinematic release on July 17th, the same day as Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, but it has since been removed from the schedule, and currently does not have a new date attached.
On June 26th, Puck News claimed that the film was deemed “unreleasable” by Warner Bros, hence why it has been removed from the schedule.
However, Warner Bros have refuted that claim with a spokesperson telling The Wrap that the “speculation is inaccurate”.
Meanwhile, a representative for Hill told the same publication that the reason for the delay was simply due to Cut Off being “not finished” yet.
Earlier this year, Hill opened up about the film during a guest appearance at Smartless Live at the Hollywood Palladium in April, explaining, “I’m about to go on a run of just the dumbest shit you’ve ever seen in your entire life. I hope you left your brains at home. It’s called Cut Off, and Kristen Wiig and I play two dumbass heirs.”
Hill added, “Rich kids in their mid-40s who get cut off by their rich parents, played by Bette Midler and Nathan Lane. It is like Step Brothers, Clueless and Trading Places. Classic comedy.”
He also seemed intent on a big cinematic release for the movie, explaining his aims for Cut Off was to “bring comedy back to theaters”.
For now, it stills appear unclear when Cut Off, which wrapped filming in September 2025, will arrive on the big screen.
