Walton Goggins cried when he secured ‘The White Lotus’ role: “A golden ticket”
Walton Goggins, who played broody criminal Rick Hatchett with a vengeance in the latest season of The White Lotus, recently opened up about crying when he received the role.
Goggins recently told Daily Mail that he sobbed heavily when he phoned his wife Nadia Connors after he’d learned he’d been cast by The White Lotus creator Mike White.
Goggins explained his tears: “It’s a golden ticket, but more than that, it was just the opportunity to go on a journey that comes from that man’s [Mike White’s] imagination.” He gushed, “Things that are interesting to him are interesting to me.”
“I’m so relieved it’s out in the world,” Goggins also remarked of the final episode, in which his character dies. “It’s been uplifting getting to finally talk to people about it. For the first time in a long time I can exhale. A big exhale. Rick Hatchett was a lot to carry.”
Goggins also starred alongside mega-star Sam Rockwell in the show, whose casting was kept firmly under wraps. A dialogue between the two stars in the show went viral after Rockwell’s character admitted to stunning confessions, many of a sexual nature. Goggins was astonished when he first read the scene.
The third season of the show has been the root of much controversy. Composer Cristóbal Tapia De Veer swiftly quit the show and made public remarks about White.
Additionally, a Saturday Night Live sketch parodying the show made news as Aimee Lou Wood’s teeth were mocked, which she labelled “mean and unfunny”. The star later received an apology from Saturday Night Live for the skit.
