Venice Film Festival reveals the 2021 line-up
The 2021 edition of the Venice Film Festival has unveiled its official line-up with the likes of Pedro Almodovar, Paul Schrader, Edgar Wright, Ridley Scott and more all featuring.
The programme for the 78th Venice Film Festival, which is due to take place between September 1-11, was announced from Rome by festival president Roberto Cicutto and artistic director Alberto Barbera.
“We were surprised by the average quality [of film submissions] this year,” Barbera said during the announcement. “As if the [COVID-19] pandemic had inspired creativity. So in this way, I can be optimistic about the state of cinema.”
The hotly-anticipated event welcomes back some of the biggest names in Hollywood and, with it, a selection of major blockbusters with the likes of Dune, Last Night in Soho, The Last Duel, Halloween Kills just a short selection of those involved.
Cicutto added: “We are ready, we hope for the whole world, for Italy and for Venice in particular, we hope that infections will slow down so that we can open up more theatres but we will, of course, obey the rules.”
