With help from the catastrophic Coronavirus pandemic, Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated film Dune has been delayed multiple times, with an official release now penned in for October 22.

As the exciting release date draws ever closer, Warner Brothers have treated us with a brand new ‘Main Trailer’ for the film giving us far more meat to chew on than the mystical teaser trailer released in 2020.

Giving audiences some insight into the climactic battle that bookends Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi novel, as well as the film’s spectacular cinematic vision, the epic three-and-a-half minute trailer gives us the best impression yet of Denis Villeneuve’s final vision.

With an impressive ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, Dave Bautista and Oscar Issac, Denis Villeneuve’s take on the classic novel will be 2021s paramount cinematic spectacle. This film may well be steeped in sub-plot and clever writing but Villeneuve’s version of the film will be a blockbuster. Huge battle scenes coupled with giant monsters and stunning landscapes means this film will be a treat for all, sci-fi fan or not.

Centred on Paul Atreides, Dune tells the story of the son of a noble family, entrusted with the protection of the most valuable asset in the galaxy amid a war of nations, fighting for control of the desert planet Arrakis.

It’s a winding narrative that touches on several different sub-plots and themes, making visionary director Denis Villeneuve, the perfect filmmaker to tackle the subject. Speaking about the new release, the director notes in an interview with Slash Film: “At its core, you can see it from one angle as a powerful, epic adventure story, but it has so many themes that make the book so rich”. Continuing, the director adds, “We tried to keep the richness in the movie…humans, we need to earn our destiny in order to change the world. The movie is kind of a call to action for us to change things, especially for the youth”.
