Van Halen vocalist Sammy Hagar to receive star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
Former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar is set to become the latest rock ‘n’ roll figure to be celebrated with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
A ceremony is set to take place at 11:30am in Los Angeles on April 30th in honour of the classic rock icon, and there will be various famous friends of Hagar in attendance to commemorate the Van Halen frontman.
Guy Fieri, the American television personality who bears a striking resemblance to Hagar, will be hosting the occasion. Meanwhile, John Mayer will be a guest speaker at the event, as will Hagar’s manager and confidante Tom Consolo.
In a statement, Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said: “The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to honor rock legend Sammy Hagar for his contributions to the world of rock and roll music.”
Martinez continued: “From his humble beginnings in Fontana, California to strolling the Hollywood Walk of Fame as a young boy, he has truly come a long way.”
Although Hagar wasn’t an original member of Van Halen, he replaced David Lee Roth in 1985 and was a crucial part of the band during their most commercially successful era. However, he eventually departed the outfit in 2005, when Roth returned to the fold and remained positioned until they parted ways following the death of Eddie Van Halen in 2020.
While a few years ago, there was previously talk of Roth and Hagar teaming up with the rest of the remaining Van Halen clan for a tour of their material across the different eras, the duo have begun airing their dirty laundry in public.
Last year, Hagar said of Roth: “He’s a showman. He’s all show. I enjoy him. But you talk about cringing. I can’t imagine how he feels when he looks at some of them old videos, the way he was dancing and moving, and the way he was singing live sometimes.”
After staying silent, Roth then went back to the attack on YouTube and mentioned Hagar’s previous claim that he was abducted by aliens as a teenager, which he believes explains his recent conduct.
“According to Sam, he was abducted by aliens. I know that when you’re abducted by aliens you get sex probed. I am compelled to solicit this sordid subject in an effort to explain Sam Hagar’s conduct. For the last 10 summers I haven’t said a single syllable about him. Not one. I defy you,” Roth told viewers.
