Upcoming guests revealed for ‘Saturday Night Live’
Saturday Night Live have announced the musical guests and hosts for the final two instalments of season 49, including indie rock band Vampire Weekend and Road House star Jake Gyllenhaal.
The sketch comedy show’s penultimate episode of the season will air on May 11th and will be hosted by Maya Rudolph. The comedian is no stranger to the SNL stage. She was part of the show’s cast in the early and mid-2000s, alongside the likes of Tina Fey, Fred Armisen and Amy Poehler.
Since her stint with SNL, Rudolph has starred in a series of beloved American comedies, including Bridesmaids and Grown Ups. She also features in the upcoming animation film IF alongside Ryan Reynolds and Steve Carell. Directed by former The Office star John Krasinski, the movie is set for release on May 17th.
Vampire Weekend will provide the musical entertainment for the penultimate show, following the release of their new album, Only God Was Above Us. Far Out awarded the record a four-and-a-half out of five rating, deeming it the “best the band have ever made”.
The indie band made their first appearance on the sketch show in 2008, the same year they put out their self-titled debut. They have played the show twice more since then, in 2010 and 2013.
The final episode of the season will air on May 18th, with Gyllenhaal set to host. Since finding success with cult thriller Donnie Darko and Oscar-nominated love story Brokeback Mountain, the Los Angeles native has spent the last few years starring in action movies. His most recent outing is Doug Liman’s Roud House, which hit Prime Video in March.
Gyllenhaal has hosted the show twice before, first in 2007 with indie outfit The Shins as his musical guest. He hosted again just two seasons and two years ago in 2022, with popstar Camila Cabello filling the musical slot.
For his third time hosting the show, Gyllenhaal will be joined by actress and singer Sabrina Carpenter. After finding her start on the Disney show Girl Meets World, Carpenter has become one of the biggest pop stars in the world, opening for Taylor Swift last year and recently taking to the stage at Coachella. Carpenter will take to the SNL stage following the release of her huge new single ‘Espresso’.
